Hoopoe

Thank God for light evenings, last night, I must have viewed one of the first Migrating Whimbrels  at Marazion along with a Short Eared Owl at Trewellard hill. Tonight I captured a couple of images of the Hoopoe at Sancreed and Roe deer at Marazion.

Snowy Owl

I've had a special couple of days, Sunday I managed to get on The Gyr Falcon at Pendeen (unfortunately no image) and today an early call from Steve Rogers and Phil Clark got me onto this Snowy in my home town St Just. Unbelievable to have two rare birds in two days on your own patch.

The gyr is a lifer and the Snowy is the second one I have seen.

Three More From Yarner

Mandarin duck have established a wild population in the UK and Yarner wood is one of their breeding locations, they generally nest in tree hollows but have a tendency to use the Tawny Owl boxes at Yarner.

Siskin are a regular winter visitor, this female performed well for the camera.
Love these Nuthatch, they nest in holes in tree's reducing the size of the holes with mud, just enough for their body size.
