My Hobby

On  occasions this summer, if you can call it a summer! I have found the odd Dragonfly wing in the garden , Lisa has also seen a small raptor attacking the bird feeders on two occasions. It begged the question, do we have a Hobby frequenting the garden, as the Hobby feeds on Dragonflies and discards their wings. Well yesterday evening we had high numbers of Swallows, House Martins and Swifts feeding over the corn field behind us, with all of the species mentioned whizzing over the garden, so I fetched my camera and 70 to 200 f2.8 zoom lens to try and photograph them. I noticed a small raptor flying amongst them, a Hobby, and grabbed a few shots of it, proof that it is possible it may have fed within or over my garden. Hobbies migrate from the African continent to Northern Europe for breeding, recording about 500 breeding pairs in the country. They are not known to breed in the far west Cornwall, however with this evidence in all probabilities they do .
