Slavonian Grebe

A half day at work then out with the camera, however with the rush to get out I left my binoculars at home, and that made it difficult to spot the Slavonian Grebe. I captured the grebe approximately mid channel at Carnsew Basin.

Christmas Day In A Hide

On Christmas day, Lisa and I decided to take advantage of a few hours of dry weather, we had a breakfast with our family who then went off to their in-laws, so we put our dinner off to the evening and spent a couple of hours at Drift.

A Few Flight Shots From Yesterday

This first shot comprises of two Dark Bellied Brent Geese and one Pale Bellied Brent. The Dark Bellied are from Greenland but the pale are from Russia/Spitzbergen and unusual to see both species together.

Long-tailed Duck at St Gothians

With the unusually confiding drake Long-tailed Duck at Carnsew Basin, Hayle, a first year drake LT Duck has turned up at Gwithian, in Hayle. Not to be outdone he is also very confiding, but not as good looking as the adult male counterpart!

Long Tailed Duck

I went to Carnsew basin today, to capture an image of what is probably the most photographed duck in Cornwall, a Long Tailed Duck. It was a treat to see this species relatively close, as normally they are viewed through a scope half a mile away. Exposure was difficult as it was so easy to burn out the pure white areas of this lovely male. Unfortunately it kept its long tail to itself.

Brambling

A new garden tick today, Lisa found this Brambling this morning around 0815 am, as I was off to my sons house to sort out hi s heating system I just caught a glimpse of it. Annoyed at this I went to work aggravated, that I would not be home to take some images. However luckily it returned and Lisa captured a few images on her Nikon D90.All the shots were taken through a window

Juvenile Hedgehogs

During the summer we had up to five Hedgehogs at a time visiting the garden, and we were hoping to see young Hedgehogs. This is the only one we have found in the garden, rescued last night. It weighed in on the kitchen scales at 280 grams. To survive the winter, a Hedgehog should exceed 600 grams, if we release it now it would more than likely die, so it looks like we have a overwintering buddy. It is housed in our house at the moment, I am trying to persuade Lisa to house it in the shed. The images were taken with an  i phone.
